Great engineers are the ones willing to risk major system failures in order to discover what is possible beyond the established. Those who always play it safe and copy what has worked before are rarely the ones who discover something truly new. One failure will teach you more than a thousand successes.
This is true for engineering (and probably for life in general).
Paradoxically, failure in a system or design often becomes the very thing that improves it in the next iteration. Every breakdown, every design mistake, every unexpected result teaches something success never could.
(at The Human Touch Robotics, we went through many iterations of our Dexter adaptive gripper, Deepeye AI computer vision system, and Noyce Brain, our path planner. Many things failed along the way, but that is exactly how the system improved.)
